More Than a Coffee Shop

Some friendships start over coffee. Some start over books. Ours started over both.

In 2020, Angie Jackson and Dewana Montgomery found each other in a virtual book club, strangers brought together by the pandemic and a shared love of a good story. What started as monthly video calls turned into a real friendship. And one day in April of 2022, they each shared a secret dream and realized it was the same one.

In April 2024, that dream opened its doors at 5018 Broadway in Pearland. LIT Java is Pearland's only bookstore café meaning we are the only place in town where you can find your next favorite read, sip a hand-crafted latte, and leave with a new friend. Our shelves carry everything from Banned and Challenged titles to Local Lits spotlighting area authors, plus a dedicated children's section built to spark the next generation of readers.

We host 10 to 12 events every month: author meet-and-greets, open mic nights, writing workshops, and book clubs, because we believe books and coffee can be the catalyst to build a strong community. One customer told us that LIT Java was their "third space," home, work, and here. That's exactly what we set out to build. In 2025, the Texas Travel Awards named us a must-visit Under the Radar destination in the state of Texas. To the people of Pearland, we're just home. We were also name Pearland's 2025 Emerging Business of the Year by the prestigious Pearland Chamber of Commerce.
